Last Saturday I had the honor of conducting my first hijabi workshop at Smiles Boutique & Spa.
If you are wondering what hijab workshop is…. well, a hijabi guru (in this case me hehe) conducts a workshop to teach a group of girls/ladies how to wrap their hijab (scarf) in different styles.
This is a new concept in the Middle East however such workshops are very popular in Malaysia, Indonesia and the UK.
I spent two hours in the company of lovely ladies who were eager to learn new ways to wrap their scarf as let’s face it we all get bored with the same hijab style day after day.
Smiles Boutique & Spa is a place I wish I had growing up, it is a place like no other in Oman. It is fairly new opened its door on the 21st of May 2014 and it is owned by two sisters Ms Hiba and Ms Wafa Al Ajmi.
The workshop was held at Smiles Boutique and Spa in Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos. I fell in love with this as soon as I stepped in and I bet you will too. Naturally, I was thrilled when Hiba contacted me to see if I would be interested in conducting the workshop.
Not only is it beautifully decorated but the concept is to have a place for young girls (up to tweens) to come get together, have their hair and/or nails done. Basically a place to chillax! They also have a place for a mummy and daughter mani/pedi session (CUTE!).
Smiles also has a boutique which sells unique items for babies and girls. From clothing down to shoes and accessories!
In addition to that they conduct workshops on posture, public speaking and many more to empower young ladies.They also rent their beautiful space to host birthday parties.
For the workshop I gave a presentation talking about the hijab and showed them some of the styles that I wear on model hijabi barbie. Scarves, under cap and pins were provided along with a mirror so the ladies could practice the hijab styles on themselves.
The hijab workshop was initially aimed at young girls starting from the age of 9 to late teens. However I have had many requests to have one for elder women so in sha Allah in next one it will be open for adults to attend.
Four intially signed up for the workshop but only 2 lovely ladies (Anfal and her sister Waad) made it. They were such a pleasure to teach and didn’t mind posing for a picture with me and sharing it on my blog (thank you ladies).
I must admit this was such a great experience I think I had more fun than they did to be honest. I look forward to hosting it again next month (stay tuned for the date) will announce on my blog once a date and time has been fixed.
